HOW IT WORKS

Our digital gallery is a unique collection of thousands of photographs captured by seafarers themselves, with accompanying stories, captions and credits.

Our toolkit  provides a ready-made photo selection, printable and digital resources for museums and others to build their own Life at Sea exhibit.

Viewing the images

Once you are logged in to the gallery, you can browse, use the filters to look at specific photos by category or theme, or SEARCH using keywords.

Using the images

Fee: where images are used in a context where an agency or photographer fee would normally be paid, such as exhibition collections, cover images, illustrations for manuals or reports, not for profit publications intended for fundraising purposes, etc., licensees are requested to pay a fee to the photographer according to scale of distribution and image size. Contact details will be provided by the ITF Seafarers’ Trust (ITFST), and proof of payment required.

Free of charge: where the images will be used solely to promote the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers and create greater awareness of their living and working conditions, such as free exhibitions or not for profit publications highlighting the vital work of seafarers, up to 30 images may be used, free of charge, subject to citing the appropriate CREDITS. 

No image may be used without prior agreement.

Requesting permission: Contact us to request permission to use any of the gallery images. You must provide the following information about the proposed usage:

·      Publication / platform / location

·      Date / period of usage

·      Circulation / expected reach

Images must not be used for commercial gain unless this is agreed with the ITFST and the photographer(s).

Permission to use images from the gallery is only granted for the agreed setting, for one single use. Requests for further use of the photos must be re-submitted.

Credits

When using the images the licensee agrees to fully credit the photographers as well as the ITF Seafarers’ Trust (ITFST) as follows:

·      Title of photo

·      Photographer’s name

·      [Description of photo by photographer] optional

·      [Name of photo competition] optional

·      Credit ITF Seafarers’ Trust

Donate: Where images are used from the archive with no fees payable, we encourage the licensee to make a donation to their local seafarers’ welfare organisation. The Seafarers’ Trust can provide details on request .
